Bar Harbor Village Green

The Bar Harbor Village Green, or simply “Village Green” as it is known, is the calm and peaceful anchor around which the island moves on a daily basis. One cannot miss it or its vigilant and historic mascot, the town clock, as they are both in the middle of this charming coastal village. Whether one visits here for simple relaxation, to hear some live music performance, or to enrich their lives by viewing the visual arts and crafts presented here throughout the season, this is the place around which the community and its welcomed guests enjoy Bar Harbor and each other.

The Village Green is aptly named as it is a comfortably large space filled with the deep greens of healthy summer grass and leaves, a soothing color to the mind and spirit. There are park benches at various places throughout and a beautiful gazebo. Natives and visitors often come here to relax, read, reflect, talk, or even sit and do some computer networking since this is a wireless hotspot for the community and its visitors.

Every Monday and Thursday evening from 8:00 PM - 9:00PM, the Bar Harbor Town Band performs free concerts in the Village Green from July through mid August (weather permitting). If rain or other bad weather does not permit performances to be done outside, they are set to take place at the Bar Harbor Congregational Church, located at 26 Mt. Desert Street.

The park sits at the intersection of Main Street and Mt. Desert Street, an important intersection in town. Restaurants, galleries, boutiques, specialty shops, clubs, pubs, book stores, gift shops, and ice cream parlors are just a few steps away.

The Free Island Explorer Shuttle Bus Service makes regular (in season) stops at the Bar Harbor Village Green. From here, you have access to a variety of places on Mount Desert Island, in Acadia National Park, and on the mainland.
